Translations
'One man's meat is another man's poison' is a proverb that applies well to the art of translation. Why? Because in the corporate world especially, where preference is governed by the specifics of the business, a translation that suits one company may be wrong for another. Take the Dutch word 'omzet'. It has many English equivalents but only one that is correct in a particular context for a particular client. Highly specific financial or scientific terms require precise translating and so do idioms. Like particular words, they may have no direct English translation or be an open invitation to introduce error. How about Inhoudelijk? Immaterieel? Concreet?
